In this lesson Steven
Kroon demonstrates playing technique for the shekere.
He believes the first thing you have to do when playing shekere is finding
a comfortable playing position. Steve prefers a relaxed cradle position when
playing the shekere. Holding and balancing the instrument is crucial for
getting the right sound from the instrument.
Steven
Kroon has been a professional musician for the last 35 years. He
began working with such notables as Luther Van Dross (from 1981
to 2001), with whom he performed on seven platinum albums and fifteen

on such television shows as The Tonight Show, The Late Show With
David Letterman, and The Grammy Awards. Steven also performed with
Ron Carter from 1987 to 2004, which included extensive tours of
the U.S., Japan and Brazil, as well as the well-known NY Jazz scene.
He also recorded with a “Who’s Who” in the recording
business, including Roberta Flack, Bill Cosby, Aretha Franklin,
