 Roger began playing congas on the streets of Washington DC in the late 60’s. He moved to San Francisco in 1971 and took advantage of the thriving music scene playing with Latin, Brazilian and Funk bands. Roger credits Cuban master drummer Armando Peraza and Bill Summers with greatly influencing his playing in those years. In 1977 Roger moved to New York City and began studying with Brazilian master percussionist Dom Um Romao.
Shortly after moving to New York Roger began recording on many of the GRP record label projects. This led to tours with Dave Grusin and the GRP All Stars, Dave Valentin and Angela Bofil. Further tours and engagements in the 1980s included Herbie Mann, Michael Franks, Al Di Meola, and Tania Maria. Roger became a sought after studio player recording with a variety of artists such as The Rolling Stones, Blondie, Chic, Phillip Glass, Yoko Ono, Suzanne Vega, Will Downing, Tipica 73, Johnny Pacheco as well as many soundtracks and jingles.
During the 1990’s Roger worked with Latin Percussion as a Product Development Consultant for a couple of years and continued recording and performing with Grover Washington, Spyro Gyra, Marc Anthony, Vanessa Williams, Gregory Hines, Chaka Kahn and Jeff Golub.
In the new millennium Roger toured with Luther Vandross until his unfortunate passing in 2005. Roger also performed with Whitney Houston and Cindy Lauper and recently joined the great Jazz Bassist Ron Carter's Quartet and has appeared as a guest artist with The Dizzy Gillespie All Star Big band, and The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra.
Broadway musicals include: “The Big Deal”, “Chronicle of a Death Foretold”, “The Civil War”, “BKLYN the Musical” and in the spring of 2006 “Tarzan”.
