Frequently Asked Questions
Drum Questions
Tuning is somewhat subjective.
Bongos: The Hembra can be tuned somewhere between the C below Middle C and the F below middle C. The macho is often tuned between the D above middle C and the C above middle C. Keep in mind that that the intervals between the drums vary greatly from player to player and style to style.
Congas: Most conga players tune the lower conga a fourth lower than the higher one. You can tell you've got this interval if you can play "Here comes the bride" on your congas. Remember to compare the tones of the two drums while the higher drum is tilted forward.
Some species as oak are known to have a brighter, louder tone than say mahogany, which is known to be warmer and more mellow. Fiberglass tends to have a louder and crisper sound, with more resonance.

It is very important to protect your drums from damage and temperature extremes with proper storage. It is recommended that cases or soft bags be used when transporting and storing drums. If your drums are set up for an extended period of time, keep them covered. Keep drums away from and out of damp or cold areas.
Extreme temperature shifts within a short period of time do pose a potential hazard to drum shells and their finishes. As humidity and temperature change, the moisture content within the cells of the wood is affected. This can make the shells expand or contract, warp or even crack. A general consensus among drum manufacturers has been that drums are safe and comfortable when stored in an environment in which you yourself are comfortable in.
